Sometimes I approach reading the word of God with haste because I’m anxious to learn. This is a good thing but it becomes a bad thing when done so hastily that I forget to pray. The reason why Atheists have a hard time understanding the principles of the bible is because they do not have the Holy Spirit of God guiding them, teaching them and helping them to understand. We as Christians do have this, but when we approach God’s word without first praying and asking for it, there will be times where we finish reading and feel like we’ve gotten nowhere. God is the one who equips you with understanding, so when you leave Him out of the process you inadvertently handicap yourself. It is an amazing thing to be anxious for God, but it is dangerous when your anxiousness supplements your patience.
We must speak to God and ask for Him to sanctify us by His truth which is His word, and help us to apply that word to ourselves. Then the outcome will be a lot more pleasant. It is kind of like the order of a day, if the sun fully rose before the rooster crows, what good would the rooster be, or if a flower grew from a seed without being planted first, what good would the soil be? Therefore we must talk to God first so that His word can have the impact it is supposed to have on us and so it can resonate with us. 🙂

That’s godly advice, Julian. There are times I read God’s Word just so I can check off my three chapters for the day (and five on Sunday).

So true! It’s important to keep learning and growing in our walk with God! I’m kind of bad about reading my Bible regularly but I’d like to get better! I do faithfully read Christian magazines like RELEVANT and Christianity Today, which often help me learn a lot and grow in my faith and understanding of God’s word! I’d highly recommend checking them out!

Absolutely I will check those out hahaha. And approaching the bible is pretty intimidating if you don’t do it often and have no direction or objective., but I would definitely recommend starting in the gospels. Hearing the words of Jesus, learning about the prophecies he fulfilled and what he has done for us is amazing. Then I’d recommend starting from the beginning to see how His coming and sacrifice was necessary was prophesied about and yeah hahahaha

Definitely! I’ve been trying to read through the New Testament again and then maybe backtrack to the Old Testament.
And it’s not that it’s intimidating for me (I’ve actually read through the whole thing twice) I’m just bad about constancy, lol! Usually by the end of the day I’m just exhausted after school and tempted to just pass out in front of the television. I’ve gotten better but it’s definitely something that I need to work on! 😂😬

Wow sheesh ahahha That is awesome… I should have known with a Christian homeschooling thing and your mom being an apologetics teacher and stuff and with your love for reading that you would have read the bible from cover to cover hahahaha duuuuhhh

Ha ha, funny story here! My dad made me read the whole Bible cover to cover before I could get baptized. Thus, I was like this ten year old little kid drawing pictures of things from Ezekiel and trying to understand it all! Although because I was so young the first time around, my mom had to edit some parts out. She’d look over the story of David and Bathsheba and be like, “Ok, we’re skipping this part”. 😂

hahahahahahaha that is so cute hahahahaha editing out the inappropriate stuff hahahaha I can’t wait to do the same things with our daughter. Wow your dad means business hahaha and I love that you were able to take it seriously and say okay i will read this whole thing and get baptized. That is sheer awesomeness.
