30 day blog challenge day 16. What do I collect?

book collection.jpg

Growing up I had quite a few collections. As a toddler I used to collect interesting rocks that I would find on the ground and name them. When I was in third grade I collected these 25 cent toys called homies that came in a machine at the super market. When I was old enough to have my own gaming system I collected video games. Lastly in high school I collected toy cars.

It is interesting looking back on all of the  seemingly weird things we used to do as children. Today I try to stray away from collecting things because they  will all either waste space, be misplaced, or dirty my room up because I have no patience to put things where they belong hahaha. Nowadays I collect memories. I take loads of pictures with family in all different kinds of places.

Ever since I got married to Rebekah we have been spending a lot more time with her family. They are all some of the most amazing people ever. So kind and welcoming and super adventurous. I have had about 100 new experiences in the past 8 months because of them and I love it. The best part about it though is it is all natural wholesome fun. No big city lights in the city of NY, no Gambling or half naked women in Vegas, no bragging at the beaches of Jersey, no celebrity hunting in California, none of it. It is just the family and nature. Oceans, woods, boardwalks, boats, fish, games, love, laughter and a whole lot more.

This country will make you feel like you are missing out if you aren’t drinking and partying, which is ironic because all you are doing is missing out when you drink and party. You miss out on memories because you usually pass out or develop a hang over that makes you forget what you did, you miss out on your moneys worth because you pay so much for drinks that really do nothing for you but make you feel like crap, you miss out on quality time with the people you love because you can’t hear anything they are saying, you miss out on finding decent people to associate with because clubs are full of people looking to please their flesh for the night and then do it again tomorrow, etc the list goes on and on.

So I enjoy spending time with loved ones, talking about God and enjoying His creation. There is nothing like spending time with God in a group full of people who love Him. With smiles on our faces and honest love in our hearts we feel the presence of Jesus as we dwell in His creation and among one another.

“For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them (Matthew 18:20)”

So what do you collect and why? Leave a comment below I love to see how different everyone is and what kinds of things people find interesting!

  1. Thanks for the post, Julian. I collected books – I think I got that gene from my mother. I just kept buying more bookshelves. But somehow it finally struck me that I’ll never read those books again.I began selling them through Amazon and have sold 130 books to date with about 100 to go. Now if a buy a book I immediately list it on Amazon after I finish it.

      1. Mostly history especially Polish history. You’re not too far off the mark. But after accounting for the cost of postage and packing supplies I’ve netted about $6.50 per book.

      2. Every book was priced according to what other sellers were charging but the average was probably around $10. My Dad was all Polish so I developed an interest in Polish history and culture.

  2. Hello my friend! I’ve been offline for a couple months now due to some overseas travel and just being busy with life this summer. I enjoyed the post and I think you got it right about the partying topic. I forgot more than I remember in my younger days for this very reason. As for collecting, I seem to collect everything because I never get rid of anything. The end result is too much stuff. So now I plan to start collecting empty space. If a space if full, I plan to empty it and de-clutter my life! Once I find I have too much space, I’ll start thinking about downsizing and collecting more time to do things I enjoy rather than keeping up with all my stuff!

    1. It is great to have you back brother!!! Overseas sounds awesome to where and for what cause? I’m sure that experience is worthy of a blog post haha. Boy do I know what you mean about the clutter. Before my wife moved in my living space looked like a forest after a zombie apocalypse.!!!

  3. Hmm…I don’t really know what I collect, lol! I used to collect rocks as a kid, but I gave that up a long time ago. I love how you turned this post into an opportunity to teach!

BTW, I’m doing a guest post lineup and I’d love to have you write a post for 1 Timothy 4:12 Girl! The only rules are to keep in line with the Bible and the views presented on my site. Basically, write whatever God puts on your heart and that you’d like to share with my readers.

I’ll message you my email address on Instagram so you can send me the article to post, if you decide to do it.
