She raised me part 1

My wife an I are so incredibly close! Over the years we grew closer to one another and more importantly closer to God. We were always inseparable, but instead of people seeing how in love we were all they could say is, “don’t you feel like you need some space?” or, “you two really need to spend some time apart, its not healthy to spend that much time with one person.” It really used to annoy me when people would say things like that, but I would listen despite my disdain toward the concept. This led me to make a lot of mistakes and almost kept me from the beautiful marriage I have today.

In my adolescence I tried my best not to be stubborn and to adhere to advice from my elders only to be led astray. These people I looked to for sound information on how to be a man would only teach me how to prolong my boyhood. Then my wife came along with a clear perspective on who she was, completely unashamed of the gospel and a seasoned love for Jesus. That blew me away! We were only 14 when we met so this was extremely uncommon to me.

Today I asked myself, “why is it such a common thought that a couple should spend time away from each other.” Then I realized two things, the first is whenever God puts something together the world tries to tear it apart and believe me the world almost won. If it weren’t for my wife being so mature in Christ at such a young age and instilling that spiritual grounding in me we wouldn’t have lasted past our second year together. God was using this woman to bring me closer to him and if I were to lose her my chances of understanding him would have faded into obscurity. The second thing I realized is I should post about how she literally raised me but that post would be way too long so I decided to make it a series.

This series is dedicated to the person that God used to teach me how to be a man, all the lessons I have learned from and with her and how she took a broken down, confused, angry follower of the wide road and set him on the narrow path that leads to everlasting life. This series is dedicated to my wife Rebekah!

  1. Julian, Your wife sounds like an incredible women. It sounds like you both are giving a lot to this relationship. After 23 years of marriage, I’m still learning how to avoid being self centered and focus on more giving in our relationship. I’ve learned that the more I give, the more I receive. I discovered this lesson in the bible, and have found it to be completely true when put into practice. It makes for an wonderful relationship!

  2. Hi Julian.
I really like your writing style and of course this tribute to your wife is amazing! Thank you for sharing. It sounds like you didn’t exactly grow up in a Christian home, same as me.
As you know my blog, Song of Virginity – thanks for the follow! – is all about why keeping your virginity until marriage is a good thing and a Godly thing to do and why. But I would like the blog to aim for the young guys as well as the girls, so I wonder if you perhaps would be interested in writing a piece for Song of Virginity some day? No rush… I know you got a lot on your plate and it’s only if you feel led to do it.
Thanks and let me know eventually… 🙂 Lord bless you.

      1. Thanks for the reply. I would love the blog to reach the young guys! Fun – when you feel led, please write a post and email it to me on lene272091 at gmail.com subject “Song of Virginity”. Your post will of course have a link to your blog and a short intro from me, but apart from that, the only thing I stand strong on is that there are no raised – or pointed fingers but I think you already get that. It’s no rush, so take your time and I look forward to hearing from you.

  3. Rebekah sounds amazing – I am so glad God brought her into your life.
I am sure you bring out the best in each other. The enemy loves to tear apart marriages – – the Bible tells us in
Mark 10:9 (ESV) What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.”
A marriage that has 3 God, husband, and wife can sustain all the world tries to destroy
Ecclesiastes 4:12 Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.
God bless the marriage of Julian & Rebekah !!!
